I have a few go-to options for OHP enrollment:
  • The School-Based Health Center at Tualatin HS has an OHP Enrollment Specialist available on Mondays and Fridays (see attached bilingual flyers).
  • Project Access Now's insurance enrollment and payment support program, a community-based support.

Announcing Tigard Turns the Tide's

New Executive Director

Kathy,

Since 1982, Connie Ramaekers has led, championed, and been the heart and soul of Tigard Turns the Tide. Connie's passionate advocacy for the prevention of underage alcohol and drug use, and her promotion of positive mental health for youth, have impacted the lives of countless young people. She has built long-term community partnerships that continue to bring us together, and developed a vibrant youth prevention group (Tigard High STUDD club) providing peer-based leadership in prevention and mental health promotion.

After the multiple hats she has been wearing, Connie is happy to announce that she will be transitioning to just one role in Tigard Turns the Tide. She will continue the work she loves most--working directly with STUDD and other youth in our community. As such, we are delighted to introduce Tigard Turns the Tide's new Executive Director, Sunshine Navarro Shively.

Sunshine's background includes management positions at Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY), Coding with Kids, and With Love, Oregon. Sunshine has a BA in Anthropology from the University of California at Los Angeles and an MA in Nonprofit Management from Antioch University. With two daughters of her own (14 and 11), she is passionate about the physical and mental health of our youth and excited to carry Tigard Turns the Tide's mission forward.

On accepting the position, Sunshine said, "I am so grateful to be working with such a kind and engaged community. I am confident that Connie's passion for awareness and her work with youth have contributed to many lives being changed. I am fortunate to step into this role and continue the positive impact Tigard Turns the Tide makes in the community."

Sunshine will be reaching out to many of you in the near future to hear your thoughts about the strengths of our community and priorities for supporting our youth. In the meantime, you can reach her at sunshine@tigardturnsthetide.org.

Please feel free to forward this announcement to your staff or team to help us spread the word about Sunshine joining our coalition. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for your support of Tigard Turns the Tide.

Sincerely,

Board of Directors

RaĆces' newly released Training on Suicide Prevention and Intervention in the Latine Community

RaĆces is excited to announce the release of a new virtual on-demand training entitled Suicide Prevention and Intervention for Latine Communities.  The training is sponsored by the American Psychological Association (APA) for 3 continuing education credits and meets the Oregon legislative requirement for mental health professionals to receive 3-hours of suicide prevention training or cultural competency. The Oregon Health Authority has generously sponsored the training to be free of charge for mental health professionals licensed in Oregon, including psychologists, clinical social workers, and licensed mental health counselors.

The training focuses on using culturally responsive practices to improve suicide prevention, assessment, and intervention for Latine individuals. The training emphasizes evidenced-based practical tools and skills related to improving diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and clinical practices when working with Latine communities around suicide. Additionally, the training emphasizes sociocultural factors, values and practices related to Latine mental health. Please circulate to your network!

We are very honored to be one of fourteen organizations sponsored by APA for continuing education in Oregon. Keep an eye on our virtual education platform for upcoming trainings offered for credit as well.

Hi friends,

I want to get the word out about a training opportunity for schools' staff or those who work closely with schools.  They focus on how to increase family support for LGBTQ students to reduce risk and promote well-being. These are a series of three trainings, each two hours long and there are two sets of series you can join.  There is an additional all-day session as well.  They are offered virtually and I do not believe there is a cost involved.

See the attached flyer for more details.  If you have any questions, please reach out to Mavis (mgallo@uoregon.edu) or you can register at https://tinyurl.com/3m2zr5jn.

Best,
