Collaborative Problem Solving

OHA funded The Child Center to help families strengthen positive relationships and build the skills needed for success at home, at school, in the community and throughout life.

Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) is a philosophy based on the understanding that youth with challenging behaviors may be having delays in the development of skills in five different areas which are needed to adaptively solve problems and make decisions in their lives. CPS works to strengthen existing skills and teach them skills to do better in their environment; the philosophy is that “Kids do well if they can.”

The Child Center:

  • Offers free CPS classes to people throughout Oregon. Sessions are once a week for eight weeks.
  • Is focused on providing services to seven regions in Oregon that have limited mental health provider resources.

For more information, please visit The Child Center’s website and share widely with families and communities.

Warmline

Reach Out Oregon, funded by OHA as part of Oregon Family Support Network, has a warm line at 833-732-2467, a website, a chat room for any family member needing support and a weekly virtual support group.

These trainings, organized by the Association of Oregon Community Mental Health Programs with OHA support, are for mental health providers serving those struggling with suicidal thoughts, ideation or behaviors.  Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT): ABFT is an empirically informed family therapy model specifically designed to target family and individual processes associated with adolescent suicide and depression. These trainings can be accessed at no cost by contacting Maria Gdontakis Pos at mpos@aocmhp.org or by visiting the (AOCMHP) training web page.

Free Youth SAVE (Suicide Assessment in Various Environments) Trainings

Youth SAVE (Suicide Assessment in Various Environments) trainings at no cost (normally a $250 value) as a part of a statewide effort to expand training capacity.  Youth SAVE school and community based mental health professionals with tools to assess for- and intervene with- youth who have thoughts of suicide. The training includes 7 hours of synchronous learning and 2 hours of asynchronous learning, all delivered VIRTUALLY. These trainings are excellent for anyone with some behavioral health experience (i.e., peers, QMHA, etc.) and above.  Trainings offer 7.25 NASW CEUs and they meet the Adi’s Act training requirements. Subject: Upcoming Webinar: Essential DBT Skills for Individuals Who are Suicidal and the People that Care for Them

Upcoming Webinar

Essential DBT Skills for Individuals Who are Suicidal and the People that Care for Them

Tuesday, May 9 | 2 pm EDT / 1 pm CDT / 12 pm MDT / 11 am PDT

Duration: 1 Hour

Join us for this hour-long webinar, “Essential DBT Skills for Individuals Who are Suicidal and the People that Care for Them.” Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive psychological treatment that was originally developed for borderline personality disorder but has been expanded to a variety of problems, many of which have been experienced by people during the historical events of the past few years. Dozens of randomized trials of DBT have been conducted including studies evaluating the efficacy of only the skills portion of the treatment. Results support the use of DBT skills to increase emotion regulation capabilities and decrease negative mental health outcomes such as depression and anxiety. In this webinar, Dr. Rizvi will review the DBT skills modules, the proposed mechanisms of change within DBT, and will highlight specific skills that may be especially useful to the majority of clients who experience suicidal thoughts and behaviors. In addition, skills that therapists and family members can use themselves to manage stress and burnout will be reviewed.
Please note, we have received a lot of interest in our free webinar series.  If you find that registration is full, you will be able to access a recording of the webinar within a few days of the event at CAMS-care.com where you can find all of our previous free webinars. Additionally, CEs and Certificates of Attendance will not be offered for this webinar.
