Since 1982, Connie Ramaekers has led, championed, and been the heart and soul of Tigard Turns the Tide. Connie's passionate advocacy for the prevention of underage alcohol and drug use, and her promotion of positive mental health for youth, have impacted the lives of countless young people. She has built long-term community partnerships that continue to bring us together, and developed a vibrant youth prevention group (Tigard High STUDD club) providing peer-based leadership in prevention and mental health promotion.
After the multiple hats she has been wearing, Connie is happy to announce that she will be transitioning to just one role in Tigard Turns the Tide. She will continue the work she loves most--working directly with STUDD and other youth in our community. As such, we are delighted to introduce Tigard Turns the Tide's new Executive Director, Sunshine Navarro Shively.
Sunshine's background includes management positions at Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY), Coding with Kids, and With Love, Oregon. Sunshine has a BA in Anthropology from the University of California at Los Angeles and an MA in Nonprofit Management from Antioch University. With two daughters of her own (14 and 11), she is passionate about the physical and mental health of our youth and excited to carry Tigard Turns the Tide's mission forward.
On accepting the position, Sunshine said, "I am so grateful to be working with such a kind and engaged community. I am confident that Connie's passion for awareness and her work with youth have contributed to many lives being changed. I am fortunate to step into this role and continue the positive impact Tigard Turns the Tide makes in the community."
