How might we steady ourselves to meet this moment in a way that allows us to see beyond the loss, feel beyond our overwhelm and exhaustion, and imagine beyond our current structures and paradigms toward something more whole and liberatory?
We are navigating some of the harshest times both within our school walls and the world at large. As educators, family members, and community, we can harness the potential that exists within this moment, but only through deepening our awareness, understanding, and tenderness towards self and one another. This is our educator healing work.
Join the School Crisis Recovery & Renewal project for our fourth Summer Institute for Educator Healing, themed “Embracing Renewal: Praxis and Practice towards Healing,” where we focus our time together on the vision for and experience of renewal. Together, throughout our three-day institute, we engage in the incredible healing work of looking back to look ahead, of looking inward and towards each other so that we might welcome the new school year and more deeply attune to our personal and collective needs. |

What will the 2024 Summer Institute feel like? |
|
Join us for all three days, one day or one hour, we welcome you to drop in as your schedule and spirit allow! While we hope you can access as much of our time together as possible, we recognize that sustaining ourselves means accessing what we can.
Our Essential Questions That Guide Each Day:
- Day 1: August 6th – Sustaining Myself: How might I renew myself as an educator?
- Day 2: August 7th – Sustaining My Community: How might I experience and create collective care and renewal within my school community?
- Day 3: August 8th – Sustaining our Structures: How might we create structural change to support authentic healing and renewal?
Each day has a similar flow and feel for trauma-informed consistency: a keynote (Alex Shevrin Venet! Sharim Hannegan-Martinez! Savannah Shange!), a self-attuning experiential workshop (Shirley Johnson! Candice Valenzuela! Sue Kuyper!), a collective renewal practice space (Leora Wolf-Prusan & 2023-24 SCRR Leadership Fellows! Noor Jones-Bey! Jen Leland!) and an art-based healing workshop (Jesus Solorio! José González! Tonia Herrero!), and meaning-making space for us to integrate the powerful experiences.
Session titles and descriptions will be posted soon. You can check out our stellar guest faculty bios on our event website. |
