2. Tobacco 2023 Minimum Legal Sales Age Inspections Fact Sheet
The Oregon Health Authority Tobacco Retail License Program is excited to share our 2023 Minimum Legal Sales Age Inspections Factsheet. In an effort to reduce the extent to which tobacco products are available to underage persons, unannounced inspections of commercial tobacco outlets are completed to assess tobacco retailer compliance with state law. Oregon Health Authority’s Tobacco Retail License (TRL) Program, Local TRL Programs, and local counties that participate in Program Element 76, work collaboratively to complete these inspections.
Oregon’s Retail Violation Rate (RVR) for 2023 was 21%, down from last year’s RVR of 26%.

The Oregon Health Authority Government Relations team will be hosting two 2024 Legislative Session Recap presentations. In these presentations, the Government Relations team will review bills passed in the 2024 short session with significant impacts to OHA and health in Oregon. How to protect against substance abuse and risky behaviors.
How to discipline and guide youth effectively.
Youth will learn the skills they need to be independent, including:
How to visualize their goals and dreams for the future.
How to identify stressful situations and learn healthy coping strategies.
How to resist peer pressure and take pride in their responsibilities to others.

- Parenting and Mental Health is coming up on Saturday, April 6, from 10am-2pm at the Hillsboro Brookwood Library. (See attached files)
It's a day of support, connection, and resources, for all adults in the community. It will include a panel of mental health professionals, including some from the Hillsboro School District, so parents can ask their questions. It will also
include stories from local parents, sharing their experiences parenting a child with mental health conditions, and living with their own mental health conditions as a parent. It's emceed by Tara Rolstad, a writer and mental health advocate, who brings a sense

- Suicide Prevention for the Latine Community trainings (English and Spanish options)
Raíces de Bienestar, with OHA support, is offering two different offerings for suicide prevention trainings for the Latine community.
Suicide Prevention for Traditional Health Workers and Community Leaders (Spanish offering)
These 3-hour trainings are offered in Spanish and free of cost! We will be hosting several of these training sessions across 2024-2025. These trainings are offered by a live instructor either virtual or in person. This training offers continued education credits through the Oregon THW Commission. Through interactive learning activities, liberatory pedagogy, and popular education methods, the training covers the basic concepts related to suicide prevention, risks factors within the Latine community, and ways to recognize and support community members who may be experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviors. The training offers opportunities for reflections, small group activities, practice skills and collaborative learning. There is an in-person option on May 22 from 9am – 12:30pm in Beaverton. Anyone interested in attending should contact promotora Yemaly Alexander at (971)471-9100 to sign up for one of these or get on our waitlist for future trainings throughout 2024-2025. Suicide Prevention and Intervention for Latine Communities for Licensed Mental Health Professionals (English)
This Virtual On-Demand training is available for free for Oregon professionals or those licensed in Oregon and is only available in English. CEs are available. This three-hour engaging, self-paced, and on-demand training for mental health professionals focuses on using culturally responsive practices to improve suicide prevention, assessment, and intervention for Latine individuals. The training emphasizes evidenced-based practical tools and skills related to improving diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and clinical practices when working with Latine communities around suicide. Additionally, the training emphasizes sociocultural factors, values and practices related to Latine mental health. The training meets the Oregon requirements regarding suicide prevention continued education. Register and complete at your own pace on our CE 21 site.
- Oregon Suicide Prevention Training Recommendations for school staff and other providers
OHA has created documents to guide behavioral health providers (including traditional health workers), who have suicide prevention requirements based on passage of HB 2315 in 2021 (ORS 675.140, 675.597, 675.805, 676.860 and 676.863), on which course they should consider taking to meet requirements , knowing that different provider roles need different training in suicide prevention, intervention, treatment and postvention response.
