Panic Attacks: Recognizing One and What To Do

People often joke that they are suffering from a “panic attack” without actually knowing what a panic attack is. Such talk only contributes to the stigma that surrounds panic disorder and around those who experience panic attacks. Knowing what to do when someone is experiencing a panic attack can have a major impact on them.

Learn the signs and symptoms of panic attacks, how to respond if you or someone you know is having a panic attack, and how to overcome the stigma associated with panic attacks/panic disorder.

Upcoming Webinar: Is It Fear, Anxiety, or Panic?

Our brains are wired to leverage fear in response to perceived threats, and anxiety in response to threats that may or may not happen. But when fear grows too intense, it can lead to panic attacks. And when anxiety goes unchecked, it can impair our ability to function.

Join us on Tuesday, May 30, as Nathaniel Van Kirk, PhD, breaks down both the helpful and unhealthy ways we respond to perceived and imagined threats, and offers tips for recognizing different fear and anxiety responses and knowing when to seek help. Dr. Van Kirk will also answer questions about panic and anxiety disorders and how they’re treated.

Video: When Parting With Possessions Becomes Problematic

Most everyone knows what it’s like to struggle with getting rid of one thing or another. It can be hard for any of us to part with an old photo album or perhaps a favorite sweater or book.

In this previously recorded presentation, Jeff Szymanski, PhD, explains what hoarding disorder is and how it’s treated, offers tips for supporting someone living with hoarding disorder, and answers audience questions about clutter and the key distinctions between collecting and hoarding.
